Mac In The Spotlight Collection Review & Swatches

Mac released a new permanent line of Extra Dimension Skinfinishes and also added four new shades of the very popular Strobe Cream. The In The Spotlight collection consists of four new Extra Dimension Skinfinishes and five shades of the Strobe Cream.

Mac introduces four new shades of the Strobe Cream in addition to the original Pink shade. The Strobe Cream is described as a moisturizer that boosts the look of dull skin while also providing illuminating effect. It’s formulated with potent botanicals, antioxidants and iridescent pearl particles. It’s a cream that provides hydration while giving the skin a beautiful glow.

The new shades from the In The Spotlight line are:

Silverlite (silver pearls)

Goldlite (gold pearls)

Pinklite (the original Strobe Cream in pink pearl)

Peachlite (peach pearls)

Redlite (red pearls)

I used to use the Strobe Cream a lot back in the day when there were not a lot of choices when it came to illuminating products. It’s a good hydrating cream that you can either use as an illuminating primer all over the face, mix it with your foundation or just apply it as a liquid highlighter on the highest points of the cheeks. I mainly use it as a hydrating and illuminating primer and it works really well under foundation (if you’re oily I wouldn’t recommend using this all over the face as it’s pretty hydrating and can make you oilier).

The Strobe Creams come in a 50ml squeeze tube which I like. They’re mess free and easy to store when you travel. The five shades in the line are all beautiful but if I have to pick, my favorites would be Goldlite and Peachlite since they go with my neutral to yellow undertones very well.

When you dispense the product it comes out like a white moisturizer but as soon as you blend out the product you will see the illuminating undertone of the shade. Swatched heavily they appear more intense but as soon as you blend them on the skin, they leave a nice subtle glow.

All in all the Strobe Cream is a really nice moisturizing product that provides a beautiful glow to the skin without looking shimmery or glittery. It’s great for the colder months as it provides luminosity and also livens up the skin, but I can see using the new shades in summer too. If you have normal to dry skin you will love this product. If you’re combo to oily you can still use it but more as a spot highlighter or to mix with your foundation.

As part of the In The Spotlight line, Mac released four new shades of the Extra Dimension Skinfinishes that all have a duo-chrome effect. The four shades in the line are:

Soft Frost (white that breaks violet)

Doublegleam (beige that breaks silver)

Beaming Blush (pink that breaks gold)

Show Gold (peach that breaks pink)

The formula of the Extra Dimension Skinfinish is described as liquid-powder highlighter that gives a luminous and well defined finish. It’s a reflective powder that is buildable, so you can adjust the look by getting a soft and subtle highlight or a super reflecting “in your face” highlighter.

When swatched, the shades appear a little shimmery on the skin for my liking so I prefer them buffed on to the skin rather than just applying them with a fan brush. I use the Mac 188 brush to blend the powder and by buffing they appear more natural on the skin but you still get a reflective glow to the cheeks.

As you can see by the swatches the shade are all beautiful and not your usual highlighter shades. I’ve noticed that the duo-chrome effect is quite popular these days with a lot of companies launching their own version. I’m pretty conventional when it comes to my highlighter shades, prefer the usual beige and gold highlighter shades but these are a nice change if you want to do a different look with your makeup.

The Mac In The Spotlight Collection is already available on maccosmetics.com and as I mentioned before, it’s part of their permanent line.
