Summer is in full force and the temperatures outside are getting a little too hot for my liking. With hot weather comes a change in my makeup routine, especially with my base I try to stick to something that feels as light as possible on the skin.
I also reach for more cream products and everything that makes my skin glowy and fresh looking. For lips I switch to more hydrating options and I also like to implement glossy lips because they go so well with bronzed and glowy skin.
Here are my makeup must-haves for the summer months. I’ll share some of my favorites but also I’m mainly talking about the type of products that I like to use in the summer months.
Light Base
I’ve been loving the Giorgio Armani Maestro Glow for when I want a glowy light coverage base. It’s super liquidy and blends very nicely in to the skin and the finish is amazing, it just looks like skin, like you’re not wearing any makeup and your skin is naturally perfect. I also recently received the new Make Up For Ever Water Blend foundation which is coming out this month and I think would be my perfect summer base since it’s super light and also waterproof.
If you’re looking for an affordable option for a light base, the new L’oreal Infallible Pro Glow foundation is a great option and also the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream which is an oldie but a goodie.
Liquid & Cream Highlighter
I love a good summer glow! The good thing about liquid and cream highlighters is that they look more natural on the skin than your regular powder and they give that “lit from within” look that we all want. When it comes to liquid highlighters they’re so versatile, you can use them to spot highlight or you can mix them with your base for an all over glow. I also like to layer a liquid and a cream for a more intense look when I’m going out at night. Two highlighters that I’ve been loving are the Sephora Radiant Luminizing Drops in 01 (perfect for mixing with your foundation but also really nice to be used on their own) and the Marc Jacobs Glow Stick Glistening Illuminator in Spotlight (gives you that dewy almost wet look to your skin).
The Sephora Radiant Luminizing Drops are also a great affordable options since they’re only $14 and the Wet n Wild MegaGlo All In One Highlighting sticks are only $3.99 if you’re looking for a great budget buy.
Cream & Liquid Bronzer
If you’re looking for a more natural way to bronze up your skin using cream and liquid bronzers is the way to go. They just blend more naturally in to the skin and give you a bronze look that’s more believable than a regular powder bronzer. The Nars Laguna Liquid bronzer is one of my go-to’s when it comes to liquids and I also love the Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel for a cream option. Both bronzers are great for warming up your complexion and the finish is that “just came from the beach” look which I love.
I couldn’t find any affordable options when it came to liquid bronzers, I haven’t tried or seen any in the drugstore but for a cream option the Sonia Kashuk Undetectable Cream Bronzer is a close dupe to the Chanel cream bronzer.
Cream Eyeshadows
There’s nothing easier than using a cream eyeshadow all over the lid for a quick and low maintenance eye look. The tricky part is finding a cream eyeshadow that will not crease and that stays put in the heat. I have two favorites to share with you, one is my well loved Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerise cream eyeshadow in Bette (a beautiful coppery bronze) and the MAC Soft Serve eyeshadow in Quite Yummy ( a more sheer version for a cream eyeshadow that gives a beautiful sparkle to your lids).
For affordable options you can always go with the Maybelline Color Tattoos or for even more affordable, the Elf Long Lasting Lustrous Eyeshadows which are only $3.
Glowy Blushes
In spite using highlighters to add some glow to my face I also like to use glowy blushes for summer. I like blushes that give a glow to the cheeks but without any noticeable shimmer, since shimmer can accentuate any imperfections that you have on your skin. Two great options when it comes to blushes that have a glowy finish are the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blushes, I have the shade in Diffused Heat which is described as a vibrant poppy and the new Becca Luminous Blushes, especially the shade in Tigerlily, a beautiful tangerine shade.
The Milani Baked Blushes are a great affordable option, the shade in Luminoso is the perfect peach shade for summer.
Bright & Glossy Lips
A red orange shade is my perfect pop of color for summer. I think the shade suits me very well when I have a little tan and it just brightens my whole face. I recently picked up a new red orange from the new Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips lipstick line in Tell Laura which I’ll be wearing a lot this summer. My all time favorite red orange lipstick is of course MAC Lady Danger and I’ve used that shade a ton every summer.
When it comes to glossy lips I like to layer lipgloss over my lipstick only if I’m wearing a nude shade. One of my favorite lip glosses include Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi Shine Gloss Lip Lacquer Lipglosses and the Buxom Full On Lip Creams. For lip glosses that I like to wear on their own I reach for the YSL Volupte Tint-In-Oils, a lip oil that also gives a beautiful tint to your lips. My favorite shade for summer is Peach Me Love, a beautiful sheer peach.
