Marc Jacobs released a new foundation called the Shameless Youthful Look 24h Foundation. The Marc Jacobs Shameless Foundation is described as a medium coverage foundation with a natural finish. It has SPF25 and it’s one of the first foundations that is self setting and doesn’t have flashback with flash photography.
The line features 30 shades and a good variety of yellow and cool tones. I received three shades to test out and the shade in Light Y270 matches me perfectly. At first hand swatch, I though that the shade will be too yellow, but it actually works out really well for my warm skin tone. Just a note that the Y shades lean more yellow that my other yellow toned foundations.
The idea behind the Marc Jacobs Shameless Youthful Look 24h Foundation is to not have a caked up face and actually show your flaws. Skin is in when it comes to base makeup this year. It seems that a lot of companies are coming out with foundations that give that skin like effect and are lightweight so your skin can actually peak through.
I’m all about lighter coverage so I was very excited when I saw the promotions. All the models that were featured looked flawless and so natural.
First up, the packaging is genius. It’s light and comes with a squeeze tube and it’s smaller than your usual foundation, so it makes it very travel friendly. The amount of product though is the same as your usual foundation that comes in a bottle (comes with 32 ml of product).
The formula contains snow mushroom, which is known for its impressive ability to hold onto water—it’s like nature’s dupe for hyaluronic acid. The formula also contains blue daisy extract, known to visibly diminish the complexion-dulling effects of pollution. Together, they help your skin look hydrated, plumped, and more youthful.
The coverage of the Marc Jacobs Shameless Youthful Look 24h Foundation is light to medium. With one layer I can get a good light coverage which evens out my skin tone but still lets my skin peak through. I still need to spot conceal if I have any blemishes and for under the eyes but I do that with every foundation.
For application, I find that if I use a damp sponge I get a sheerer coverage for an already light coverage foundation. I like to apply this foundation with the Marc Jacobs The Seamless Brush that came out with the foundation. I was surprised that I liked a flat brush for foundation since I never use these types of brushes (I usually use a buffing brush or a damp sponge).
The Seamless Brush gives me the most coverage but also a better look of my foundation. You do have to work more since you can get some streaks when using a flat brush but I don’t mind spending an extra minute to perfect my base.
As for the primer, I like to use the foundation over a face oil. My skin is normal to dry so if I don’t prep really well most foundations don’t look good on my skin. Since the finish of the Marc Jacobs Shameless Youthful Look 24h Foundation is natural matte, if you have normal or dry skin you definitely need to use a primer and prep your skin.
Over face oil, the Marc Jacobs Shameless Youthful Look 24h Foundation looks more natural and glowy which is the finish I prefer. Also using Fix + or any other hydrating setting spray after application helps the foundation look more skin like and flawless.
That being said, if you have dry skin or mature skin, I wouldn’t recommend this foundation. You can definitely still use it and make it work but you will have to prep the skin really well to make sure there are no dry patches.
Since the foundation is self setting I don’t use any powder except to set my concealer under the eyes. I do wait 5-10 minutes to apply the rest of my face makeup to make sure the foundation has completely set. If you go in right away with bronzer and blush before the foundation sets, the powders can look a little patchy and not perfect. Instead after I apply my base, I go and do my eyebrows and then do the rest of my face makeup.
I wore the foundation for 8 hours and I can definitely say that the foundation looks better through the day. At the end of the day my skin still looked natural and glowy because of the oil and I didn’t notice any fading or caking up. I live in a dry climate so I’m planning on taking this foundation with me on my trip to Miami just to see how it holds up in hot and humid weather.

Bottom line, I really like the Marc Jacobs Shameless Youthful Look 24h Foundation. When I test a foundation I give it a week and use different techniques to see what works best for me. A couple of pointers for my perfect looking base with the Marc Jacobs Shameless Youthful Look 24h Foundation :
- Using either a flat or a buffing brush works the best for me
- Prepping the skin and making sure I don’t have any dry patches is a must since the foundation is matte and can accentuate dryness
- For a more skin like finish I always use a Fix + or a hydrating mist
- I don’t use powder as the foundation is self setting
If you like light coverage, a natural matte finish and don’t like to use powders definitely get a sample to try and see if it will work for your skin.
