The Laura Mercier Velour Extreme Matte Lipstick line is a newer release from the brand. They are intense, single stroke lipsticks with an ultra matte finish. They appear matte on the lips but they are also creamy and not so drying as a traditional liquid lipstick.
I have to admit, I haven’t tried matte lipsticks in awhile. Especially this summer, it is all about glosses. But I do love these and would definitely rock the boulder shades in summer whenever I’m looking for a more long-lasting lipstick.
The formula of the Laura Mercier Velour Extreme Matte Lipstick feels like velvet on the lips. They really are a one stroke lipstick and pack full on pigment with one swipe. In fact, they are so pigmented that I prefer them patted on the lips for a more soft and blotted lips look.
There are 24 shades in the Laura Mercier Velour Extreme Matte Lipstick line and the shade selection is amazing. There is literally a shade for every taste. The shades range from light nudes, to some darker neutrals, some pops of fun colors and plenty of darker and vampy shades.
I received 10 from the 24 available shades and I really like most of them. The only shade that I felt was not flattering on my skin tone is the shade in Ruthless, which is a super light pinky nude. I felt like that shade was too light for me but also since I have dry lips, it accentuated the texture more than the other shades. Otherwise, the other 9 shades all apply evenly and actually don’t any dryness or texture on the lips. The finish that these give is very similar to a liquid lipstick, so they appear matte on the lips, but they are way more comfortable to wear and don’t suck out the moisture of the lips.
I have dry lips naturally and I can definitely wear these with no prepping at all. I also like that the Laura Mercier Velour Extreme Matte Lipstick come in pencil form and have a sharpener on the other end. It makes precise application very easy and you really don’t need to use a lip liner with the darker and bolder shades unless you want super sharp lines.
The shades that I received for testing purposes from the Laura Mercier Velour Extreme Matte Lipstick are:

Ruthless – light pinky nude

I also received the Laura Mercier Face Illuminator Powders, which are not new but are definitely worth a mention. There are four shades in the line and they cover all skin tones.
Devotion is a light pearl pink shade that is good for fair to medium skin tones.
Indiscretion is a beautiful rose gold that suits fair to medium skin tones.
Addiction is a true medium gold that is good for medium to dark skin tones.
Seduction is a deep bronze shade that suits medium to dark skin tones.
The formula of the Laura Mercier Face Illuminator Powder is buildable (so you can go as subtle or as beaming as you prefer) and it gives a beautiful glow on the skin without emphasizing any imperfections or pores. I can use the first three shades as highlighters on my now medium skin and I use the bronze shade as a bronzer topper, when I like to add more glow to the skin.
Bottom line, I really like the Laura Mercier Velour Extreme Matte Lipsticks. For a matte formula, they are not overly drying, they are super pigmented but also look really nice on the lips. The wear time is also excellent and I can get around 6 hours of wear time before I need to touchup. They are one of the best matte formula lipsticks I’ve tried in awhile. Like pure velvet on the lips.
