During my teenage years I had very problematic skin. I was dealing with acne and acne scarring so I just wanted to cover it all and used a full coverage foundation. Little did I know that I didn’t have to cake up my face in order to look good, I just needed to use a lighter base and cover everything else with concealer.
But back then I wasn’t that much in to makeup, I just needed a base to cover up my problematic skin so I didn’t know much about it. I grew older and wiser and got really in to makeup and now I’m wearing makeup cause I really enjoy it and not to hide something.
These days I reach for a lighter base and I embrace the natural look. The Glossier Skin Tint gives me a natural and light finish but also evens out my skin tone and blurs out pores. This base is nice for year round cause it holds up really well on my combo skin during the warmer months.
Because I have combo skin I always powder my t-zone, I’m currently using the Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Powder. I adore this powder cause it sets my makeup but doesn’t cake up my face and somehow still manages to leave a healthy glow to my face.
With a natural and dewy base I use cream products to achieve the healthy look. I use the Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel cream bronzer to give my face some warmth. The best way to apply it is with a stippling brush, I use the Real Techniques Stippling brush for a flawless bronze look. Remember when using cream products it’s best to apply them first before setting up your makeup with powder.
Some cream blushes that I like come from Charlotte Tilbury and Becca Cosmetics. Charlotte Tilbury Beach Stick in Moon Beach is a peachy pink cream blush with a gold sheen. Up to medium skin tone it can be worn as a blush but for deeper skin tones this would make a great highlighter. They’re very easy to use, I just apply them directly from the tube and just use my fingers to blend.
The other Charlotte Tilbury cream product is her Filmstar On The Go in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. It’s an eyeshadow and a cheek and lips product palette, very convenient for on the go cause you only need your fingers to apply both products. The peachy blush is perfect for a flush of color and it’s buildable so you can wear it sheered out or build it up for a more intense look.
Becca Cosmetics makes awesome products for the warmer months. Their Beach Tint Shimmer Soufflés give the perfect amount of color with a beautiful glow. Watermelon/Moonstone is a coral red infused with pale gold highlighter, it’s just the perfect shade for summer if you’re in to corals.
I also use the Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal when I want to add extra glow to my face. This product is pretty neat cause you can use it mixed with your foundation if you want an all over glow or you can just dab it on the high points of your face for a natural glowy look. I also have the pressed version of this but I find that the cream looks more natural on the face, I use the pressed version mainly at night.
What base do you prefer? Do you use a full coverage or lighter coverage foundation?
