L’oreal recently released two lipstick collections that spiked my interested. The first one is a collection of red lipsticks, A Red for Every Woman that consists of six different shades of red that are connected to the women of L’oreal.
You have Julianne’s Red, Blake’s Red, Eva’s Red, Freida’s Red, Zoe’s Red and Liya’s Red. I think the concept is brilliant! You can actually pick your perfect red lipstick without trying it, you just need to match your complexion with one of the women and you’re good to go.
The other line of lipsticks has the same concept but for different shades of nude lipsticks. The Custom-Made Nudes for Every Skin Tone also have six different shades of nude, Jennifer’s Nude (for medium to olive skin tones), Freida’s Nude (for honey skin tones), Doutzen’s Nude (for fair to light skin tones), Liya’s Nude (for deeper skin tones), Julianne’s Nude (for fair skin tones) and Eva’s Nude (for light to medium skin tones).
I picked up two shades from the nude and one from the red collection. I figured both Jlo’s and Eva’s nude will suit me since I have the closest skin tone to them. I also picked up Blake’s Red since it looked like a beautiful classic red shade.
The difference between the nude and red collection is the formula of the lipsticks. The Nudes have a creamy hydrating formula with a satin finish and the Reds have a matte velvety finish but without being overly drying. I prefer my red lipsticks to be matte because they’re low maintenance and I don’t have to worry about having lipstick on my teeth or the lipsticks smudging. For the nude lipsticks I like a good hydrating lipstick because they don’t emphasize dryness on the lips which sometimes happens with nude lipsticks with a matte finish.
I think L’oreal nailed it with both lines. I love the sleek black packaging, I think it looks something like a higher end brand of lipsticks would look and I also love the shade selection. The only thing that I would change is the smell, they have the same signature smell that every L’oreal lipstick has which it doesn’t bother me but I know a lot of people are turned off by that.
Swatches L to R: Jlo’s Nude, Eva’s Nude, Blake’s Red
Blake’s Red is your classic signature red lipstick with a hint of pink. It’s very long lasting and it actually stains your lips so the fading process looks really nice on your lips.
Jlo’s Nude is an every day pinky nude shade that a lot of people will like. It’s Jennifer’s signature nude lipstick so of course I had to get it! It’s pretty hydrating on the lips and it lasts really well for a creamy formula.
Eva’s Nude is a darker nude with brown undertones. This nude is right on trend with the brown toned lipsticks. It has the same lasting power as Jlo’s nude and it’s very comfortable to wear.
If you’re looking for a new drugstore lipstick to try, check these out. I think you’ll find a shade that you’ll like plus you get to wear a signature shade from one of the women you admire.
