I’m a big fan of the Sunday Riley skincare line. The Luna Sleeping Oil has been in my skincare routine for about 6 months if not more and it’s a definite staple. Her skincare line is a perfect union between advanced chemistry and pure botanicals. The line is famous for being highly effective but also on the pricy side.
I had the pleasure of testing out her most popular skincare product, the Good Genes Treatment* and also a newer release, the Blue Moon Tranquility Cleansing Balm*.
The Sunday Riley Good Genes Treatment is an all in one lactic acid brightening, multitasking, radiance treatment and mask. It’s a hydrating treatment that plumps the look of fine lines and supports natural circulation for a smooth and healthy complexion. With long term use it promises to restore damaged skin, reduce hyper pigmentation and scars, reduce the depth of fine lines, even out skin tone and increase skin firmness.
It can be used as a treatment, day and night before you apply your moisturizer (use one pump) or you can use it as a mask (apply five pumps, massage in to face and leave for 20min before rinsing).

-Unneutralized Lactic Acid: Plumps fine lines, increases epidermal firmness and thickness, and renews skin.
-Licorice: Brightens skin, fights hyperpigmentation, and works as an anti-inflammatory.
-Squalene: Helps repair the skin barrier.
-Yeast Extract: Encourages healthier skin.
I’ve been using the Good Genes Treatment for more than a month now and I can see a difference in my skin tone. My skin feels smoother and also whenever I get a breakout I notice that the scarring and hyper pigmentation heals faster than usual. I don’t have a lot of fine lines and wrinkles so I can’t say if it helps with that but I can say that my skin looks and feels plumper after application.
The Blue Moon Tranquility Cleansing Balm is a hydrating cleansing balm that removes makeup and impurities with sugar based cleansers and soothing essential oils. It moisturizes with cocoa butter and mimosa flower wax and soothes the skin with the help of deep blue essential oils of blue tansy and German chamomile. It also contains Vanilla and sweet orange essential oils which help to relax the mind for a spa like treatment.
Listed Ingredients:
-Sugar-based Cleansers: Gently and naturally cleanse the skin and remove makeup without stripping it of oils.
-Cocoa Butter: Antioxidant-rich; helps to protect skin from heat, cold, and irritation.
-Blue Tansy and German Chamomile: Indigo oils rich in azulene, which calm irritation and soothe redness.
-Mimosa Flower Wax: Conditions and hydrates the skin.
-Tangerine and Sweet Orange Essential Oils: Used in aromatherapy to help tone and clarify the skin.
The recommended use is to massage some product on to dry skin for one or two minutes and using a warm wash cloth to wipe the balm of of the skin. The balm will turn milky as it cleanses the skin. Rinse any excess with warm water. For normal to oil skin the balm is also a great step one cleanser. It can be also used as a hydrating mask, apply all over the face and leave for 20 minutes to reveal dewy plump skin.
For me the cleansing balm removes most of my makeup. If you’re not familiar with cleansing balms, the balm comes in a hard form but when applied on the skin it turns in to an oil. What’s different about the Blue Moon Cleansing Balm is that it also has some sugar granules which help with gentle exfoliation. The smell of the balm is also amazing, it smells like cocoa butter but the scent is not too sweet and overwhelming. After removing it doesn’t leave a greasy film on your skin but also doesn’t strip the skin so you’re not left with a tight feeling.
When using a waterproof mascara I do feel that I need to go over my eyes twice either with the balm or with another product so be aware of that.
Both products are really nice but if I have to pick one I would go with the Good Genes Treatment because of it’s uniqueness. If you suffer from hyper pigmentation and uneven skin tone I recommend checking out this product. I’m very happy with the results and I will continue to use it and will probably repurchase when I run out.
