I hopped on the color correcting train and now I can’t do my makeup without using some kind of peach shade in the inner corners of my eyes. I get darkness there which I think totally disappears when I use a peach corrector under my regular concealer so my under eye area looks flawless and I actually look more rested and fresh.
Smashbox recently came out with Color Correcting Sticks in four different shades that are described as creamy and buildable and meant for evening out the skin tone.
They released four different shades that have different purposes:
Get Less Red ( a green shade which helps to reduce redness)
Don’t Be Dull ( a lavender shade that brightens sallowness/yellowness)
Look Less Tired (Light) ( a peach shade for lighter skin tones that cancels out any darkness)
Look Less Tired (Dark) ( an orange shade that cancels out darkness on darker skin tones )
They’re all infused with Vitamin E that helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and blur out any imperfections. The sticks can be applied wet or dry to customize for sheer to medium or full coverage. Every stick includes a free sharpener which is really helpful since you don’t always have a sharpener laying around for bigger pencils.
The consistency of the sticks is creamy and blends really easily in to the skin. Since they have more pigment I recommend to use them before you apply your foundation. With the Urban Decay Naked Skin Color Correctors I can get away with applying them over my foundation since they’re like a liquid but with the Smahsbox pencils it’s better to use them under foundation because they blend more nicely and your application would also be quicker.
The way I use these pencils is apply the Get Less Red shade on any spots and redness that I have on my skin. The green shade really helps with reducing the appearance of any redness that you have, especially if you have healing zits and they’re red, it completely covers the redness. And then you can go over with foundation and concealer, just make sure to pat the foundation or concealer on places you color corrected since you don’t want to move that product and erase all the work that you did.
Look Less Tired in the light shade is the prefect peach shade for my light to medium skin tone. Because the product is so pigmented I only need to use a tiny bit to cancel the darkness that I have in the inner corners of my eyes. I use a brightening concealer after color correcting and my under eye area looks flawless.
You can also use the lavender shade to add brightness under your eyes or on tops of your cheeks and it works really well both ways. If you have medium skin tone and above the Look Less Tired (Dark) works really well if you have dark circles.
I really like the formula of the Color Correcting Sticks. It’s creamy and has more pigment than your usual liquid corrector but also blends really nicely and doesn’t accentuate any dryness on your skin. Especially with healing blemishes it’s really important that the product you use on them doesn’t catch on any dry patches and make them look worse that they are.
Swatches of the Smashbox Color Correcting Sticks L to R: Get Less Red, Look Less Tired (Light), Look Less Tired (Dark), Don’t Be Dull
All in all I really like the Smashbox Color Correcting Sticks. If you have problem areas that you need to correct on your skin like redness and darkness these are worth checking out. Since they pack a good pigment even if you have a lot of redness or darkness the sticks will help with canceling those problematic areas.
