I’m always searching for the perfect foundation for my combo/oily skin. The humid Florida weather makes it very hard to find a good foundation that will keep me matte through the day and at the same time doesn’t feel heavy on the skin.
I think that the base is the most important thing to a makeup look, if your face looks flawless everything else will look so much better. So my theory is, if you have to make a choice on what to splurge and on what to save, splurge on the base and save on everything else. Don’t get me wrong you can find good foundations in the drugstore but for me I’m still looking.
The Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet foundation is a lightweight foundation that glides on the skin, never feels heavy and gives you a nice matte velvet finish. The formula is watery and feels very thin so you do need to shake the bottle before applying. I find that the easiest way for me is to just put some product on the back of my hand and then apply it with my Real Techniques Buffing brush, these two are the perfect combo for achieving a flawless base.
The foundation gives a skin like finish, I couldn’t even tell where I applied foundation but somehow it covers really well. You can get up to a medium coverage if you layer up but I only use one layer cause I like a natural look.
I picked up the YSL Fusion Ink foundation during the Sephora VIB Sale, I wanted to pick up a new foundation to try out and I was thinking of getting the Armani Luminous Silk but after trying this foundation on my hand I had to get it.
From the company : “24 hours of soft-matte perfection and comfort. Our exclusive fine-as-ink formula perfects the skin yet wears weightlessly all day. Never cakey or heavy. Feel the difference of all day perfection and freedom. SPF 18. Available in 21 shades.”
Now I haven’t tested this foundation for 24h but I can say that I wore it for 12h and it still looked flawless at the end of the day, this is without touching up through the day.
YSL created a formula that is very light, covers well and is very long lasting. The foundation is very similar to the Chanel Velvet foundation, the only difference is that it kept me matte longer and the finish is a little bit more matte. Also there is the price point, Chanel Velvet is $45 and you get 1 oz of product and the YSL Fusion Ink is $60 with 0.84 oz.
This foundation also gives a light to medium coverage with a matte velvet finish.
Both foundations are meant for combo to oily skin gals so I’m not sure how they’ll perform with dry skin but if you have similar skin type as me I guarantee that you will love both.
The thing that I love about these foundations is that they keep you matte but somehow give a nice glowy finish to the skin so you don’t look flat. Both have SPF, the Chanel has 15 and YSL has 18 but they don’t give a white cast when using flash photography.
In the photo I’m wearing Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet in shade number 30 Beige.
