The Nars Velvet Lip Glides are a hybrid lipstick that glide like a lipgloss but have the pigmentation and intensity as a lipstick. They give a glossy finish with a weightless feel and never feel sticky on the lips. With wear the glossiness fades and you are left with a semi matte finish stain that lasts a good amount of time.
The line has 13 available shades ranging from nudes to reds and dark vampy shades. I picked up three shades in Unlaced (pinky nude), No.54 (raspberry red) and Toy (vampy purple).
I wasn’t sure how I will like the formula so I figured why not get three shades that are all different. I think that’s a nice way to test out the formula and see if it works with all color families. Well I have to say that I’ll be picking up probably three more shades since I like them that much.
These are a great every day lipstick. The formula packs great pigment, feels like nothing on the lips and since it has a glossy finish it makes your lips look healthy and plump. It doesn’t feather or bleed through the day, even with the bright and vampy shades. But it does transfer so you’re not going to get the wear of a matte liquid lipstick.
I also really like the three shades that I picked. Unlaced is a beautiful light pinky nude shade. Since it’s a lighter shade it does need two coats to look even on the lips and the same goes with the vampy shade in Toy. With one coat they appear a little streaky so you have to go back and layer them for an even look (which I don’t mind by the way). The red shade on the other hand in No.54 applies beautifully. It looks even with one coat and packs beautiful red glossy pigment.
The application wand is very easy to use and you get precise application with one swipe. The hybrid formula of a gloss and lipstick is very comfortable to wear and feels hydrating and weightless on the lips.

I think the Nars Velvet Lip Glides are great for people who like to wear lipgloss over lipstick. You basically get the same effect while using just one product. They are very comfortable to wear and I think make for great every day lipsticks. Also if you have problems with dry lips you will love these as they hydrate the lips but don’t catch or accentuate any dry patches.
I asked you guys on Instagram about shade recommendation and a lot of you like the shade in Bound so I’m getting that next. I’m also planning to get Playpen as it looks like a great coral shade for spring/summer and probably Stripped because I’m a sucker for a good nude.
