The Marc Jacobs Highliner Matte Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner is a new addition to his eyeliner collection. In addition to his Highliner Gel Eye Crayon line, which features mainly shimmery shades, Marc Jacobs released a line of only matte shades. The line has 12 different shades with some neutral browns but also pastels and pops of color that are very spring and summer appropriate.
I receive the 12 new matte shades but I also got 14 shades of the shimmer line which I’ll be sharing with you.
The formula of the Highliner Matte Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliners is super pigmented, waterproof and skip free. It glides really well on the eyes and it allows you only 15 seconds to work before it sets and doesn’t budge all day. You can either use these as an eyeshadow base, as a colorful eyeliner or to create easy smoky eyes. They also come with a sharpener which is hidden in the base of the eyeliner.
The line has the following shades:
Pink of Me 59 (powder pink)
(Pop)ular 49 (hot pink)
Fine(wine) 47 (suede red)
(Brown)ie 43 (medium brown)
(Earth)quake 41 (dark brown)
(Iron)y 45 (dark gray)
(Over)night 61 (deep blue)
Out of the blue 53 (cobalt)
Whirl(pool) 51 (teal)
Deja Blue 57 (powder blue)
Mist Me? 55 (lilac)
(Grape)vine 63 (dark purple)
Swatches L to R: Pink of Me 59, Deja Blue 57, Mist Me? 55, (Pop)ular 49, Whirl(pool) 51, Fine(wine) 47, (Grape)vine 63, Out of the blue 53, Over(night) 61, (Brown)ie 43, (Earth)quake 41, (Iron)y 45
As you can see by the swatches, the eyeliners are very pigmented. They set very quickly so if you use them as an eyeshadow base, I recommend working on one eye at a time so you have time to blend the product. As soon as the eyeliners sets, they will not budge. You can rub your eye and it will literally not move. Since they have a waterproof formula, you have to use an oil based eye makeup remover to take them off. A regular makeup wipe will not work.
I tested these as an eyeshadow base, eyeliner and also in the waterline and they perform excellent. I love adding a pop of color to my lower lash during spring and summer. I see myself wearing the pastel shades and the pops of color in summer a lot.
I also received 14 shades of the Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliners which are mostly shimmery shades, except of the black which is a satin. The formula is the same as the matte version, super pigmented, don’t skip and set and don’t budge.
The shades I got and tested are:
In the Buff! 80 (champagne shimmer)
Mari(Gold) 70 (golden peach)
Orange Crush! 78 (deep orange shimmer)

All these colorful choices and pops of color got me in a spring mood. Both lines have so many great choices that I’ll be rocking in spring and summer. And since they are waterproof, I wouldn’t have to worry about my eyeliner running.
Both the Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner and the Highliner Matte Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner are available at Sephora and marcjacobsbeauty.com and they’re priced at $25.
