Mac released a limited edition collection that celebrates the elegant work of legendary photographer Helmut Newton. The packaging comes with a selection of Newton’s most iconic photographs. He is famous for his precise, glamorous and empowering photography of women and this collection represents his provocative exquisite taste with shade like red and dark plum.
The MAC Helmut Newton Collection features a cool toned eyeshadow quad, three shades of the Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour, nail lacquers, a liner and mascara.
The one product that instantly caught my eye is the liquid lipsticks. The three shades are not only super sexy shades, but they are shades that I usually love to wear around the holidays.
The Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolors come in three shades in: High Heels (bright red), Chateau M (deep red wine) and Self Portrait (dark plum).
If you’re not familiar with the Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolors, they’re liquid lipsticks with a matte finish that have great lasting power. The pointed applicator makes for a very easy application and doing a precise line is very easy but I also always use a lip liner just to make it easier for myself. The formula can be a little drying if you’re not used to wearing matte liquid lipsticks so make sure your lips are hydrated before application.
The Eyeshadow X 4 in Point N Shoot comes with four neutral shades. The shades that come in the palette are: Real Fantasy (light beige with warm undertones), Hard Currency (medium dark taupe), Influential (dark taupe brown) and Point N Shoot (deep black with cool undertones).
The eyeshadows are all in a matte finish. They have a very nice smooth texture and are easy to blend. The only eyeshadow that seemed a little different in texture is the black one in Point N Shoot. The texture didn’t feel as smooth and pigmented as the rest but with black shades I prefer them to be less pigmented because they’re easier to work with.
Swatches L to R: Real Fantasy, Hard Currency, Influential, Point N Shoot
The line also comes with three shades of the MAC Studio Nail Lacquers. I received two of the three shades in: Monte Carlo (red) and Berlin (purple). I really like the formula of the MAC Studio Nail Lacquers and these are no exception. They last around five days on my nails without chipping and you only need two coats to get opaque coverage.

If you’re looking to pick something up from this line, I would go with the lip products. The shades are so pretty and if you like wearing reds you will love these. I also love the photography that comes on the packaging and I wish they applied some of it on the actual product packaging.
The MAC x Helmut Newton collection is already available in stores and on maccosmetics.com and it is limited edition.
