I’ve been seeing these odd looking makeup brushes all over the internet, they’re literally everywhere on Youtube, Instagram, Twitter you name it. They are not your traditional makeup brush that you usually see but they almost look like toothbrushes and hair brushes. As I remember MAC was the one who released similar looking brushes to these and they were a huge hit that the designer decided to launch his own line of makeup brushes that have this special look.
The Artis Makeup Brush line has a bunch of brushes in their line, from brushes for your eyes to brushes to your face. They also have different collections like the Elite Mirror Brushes and their new release, the Elite Gold Brushes which look so luxe. I was mostly interested to try a face brush that I can use for foundation so I picked up the Oval 8 brush from the Elite Mirror Collection.
The Artis Oval 8 brush is a face brush that’s meant for applying foundation, setting powder to the entire face or for applying and blending bronzer products to larger areas of the face and body. The Artis brushes are made with CosmeFibre, a revolutionary engineered fibre made for applying cosmetic and makeup products. The Oval 8 brush has 100’s of thousands of fibres in an oval shape to provide application to larger areas of the face.
The theory behind the design is that these brushes are specially designed to be used on yourself so the handles fit perfectly in to your hand and are very easy to use. Apparently the regular looking brushes were actually designed for makeup artists and to be used on other people.
I know their most popular foundation brush is the Oval 7 but I decided on the Oval 8 since it looked slightly bigger so I though that it would apply foundation quicker which I’m all about.
The recommended use of the Oval 8 brush is when you apply foundation to start from the center of your face and glide the brush outwards, so you don’t do buffing motions like you do with your regular kabuki or buffing brush, you just use gliding motions. The softness of the bristles are like no other brush that has landed on my face. I didn’t expect the brush to be as soft as it is and also the bristles are very tightly packed so the brush feels very thick and well made.
You would think because of the thickness the brush would soak up product but no this brush actually hardly soaks up any foundation at all. So the good thing is by using the Oval 8 brush for foundation you’ll get the most of your foundation and achieve a full coverage very easy if you desire that. Also I didn’t notice any foundation streaks after application, you just get a perfect airbrushed look to your skin.
Now for the washing part I tried two methods, I used the usual baby shampoo method and I also used a special brush cleaner and both ways worked really well. Since it’s a foundation brush I would recommend washing it at least once a week because you will prevent bacteria buildup and prevent any breakouts that come with that.
I tried the Artis Oval 8 brush with different types of foundation, full coverage, light coverage and BB creams and every time it applied the base perfectly. To be honest I didn’t expect to like the Oval 8 brush, I though it’s just another overhyped product on the market but I really do love it. Would I say that it’s a must have? No, but if you’re a makeup lover like me and you’re looking for a good foundation brush I would recommend checking it out, just be warned that they’re on the pricy side so it’s definitely a splurge and an investment.
The Artis brushes are available for purchase on artisbrush.com and also spacenk.com which is where I got mine, shipping is fast and they offer free shipping on all orders over $50.
