Finally, a Naked palette with all matte shades. Urban Decay just launched their new palette that’s part of the Naked family called Naked Ultimate Basics Palette. I’m a big fan of the Urban Decay Naked palettes, I own all but the Naked 3 palette. That is the one with the rosy tones which I thought I would not wear a lot so I didn’t get it.
The Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics Palette contains 12 exclusive new eyeshadows all with a matte finish. This palette has a different concept than their other Naked palettes, first the packaging is different, it comes in square rose gold packaging and as I mentioned before the eyeshadows are all in a matte finish. Each shade that comes with the palette is exclusive and new and the shades are all different from their previous Naked Basics and Naked 2 Basics palettes.
The palette offers a mix of neutral shades with cool and warm undertones. They’re neutral enough that will suit most skin tones and look good on cool to olive complexions and deeper skin tones.
The eyeshadows that come in the Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics Palette are:
Blow (light nude demi-matte)
Nudie (soft pink-nude matte)
Commando (light taupe-brown matte)
Tempted (pale brown matte)
Instinct (medium pink-taupe matte)
Lethal (reddish brown matte)
Pre-Game (pale yellow matte)
Extra Bitter (burnth orange matte)
Faith (medium warm brown matte)
Lockout (rich neutral brown matte)
Magnet (smoky gray matte)
Blackjack (warm black matte)
As you can see the shade selection is excellent for a neutral palette. I love the mix of warm and cool toned eyeshadows, you basically get every neutral shade to do multiple eye looks. You can either go very neutral on the eyes but also have the option to create really nice matte smoky eyes.
The pigmentation of the eyeshadows is really nice. Most of the shades feel very soft and buttery to the touch and perform very well on the eyes when it comes to application and blending. The only shades that didn’t feel like they have the same texture are the darker shades in the palette, the shade in Lethal and Blackjack feel a little powdery and not so smooth as the rest of the eyeshadows in the palette. They perform fine when applied, they just didn’t swatch the same as the others.
Swatches of the Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics Palette (first row) L to R: Blow (light nude demi-matte), Nudie (soft pink-nude matte), Commando (light taupe-brown matte), Tempted (pale brown matte), Instinct (medium pink-taupe matte), Lethal (reddish brown matte)
Swatches of the Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics Palette (second row) L to R: Pre-Game (pale yellow matte), Extra Bitter (burnth orange matte), Faith (medium warm brown matte), Lockout (rich neutral brown matte), Magnet (smoky gray matte), Blackjack (warm black matte)
I prefer matte eyeshadows for every day use so the Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics Palette is a big hit for me. The palette feels very well made and I love the rose gold packaging. It also comes with a big mirror which will come in handy when you travel. I would rather have an all matte palette with me when I travel and maybe take one or two single eyeshadows with a shimmery finish than to have a palette with all shimmery shades which I can only use for the night time.
The Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics Palette is available on urbandecay.com and Sephora and it’s priced at $54.
