I love a good vampy lip but when it comes to everyday lipstick shades I find myself reaching for more neutral easy to wear shades. I think a good nude lipstick is great for natural and neutral makeup but you can also pair it with a smoky eye and other colorful makeup looks.
While I was going through my nude lipstick collection I figured out that for every day I prefer a nude lipstick with brown and beige undertones that are on the darker side. I think for my light to medium skin tone darker nudes work really well especially for daytime wear.
Now let’s talk about the formula, I love liquid lipsticks but sometimes when you have a nude shade it doesn’t really work especially if you have dry lips, they basically show every dry patch and every line so I try to stick with more hydrating formulas.
I still love a good matte lipstick but there’s a way to find a matte lipstick that’s also comfortable to wear and looks nice.
The most hydrating and glossy out of the four I picked up is Mac Hug Me. It has a Lustre formula so it’s very hydrating but still packs a good pigment. It’s described as a flesh pink but one me it really pulls some beige undertones.
Charlotte Tilbury Very Victoria is from her Matte Revolution lipstick line so it has a matte finish but it’s also very comfortable on the lips. It has a slight sheen that makes your lips look fuller and I love the shape of the bullet, it makes application super easy and precise.
Nars Barbara is part of the Audacious line, it’s super pigmented and has a velvety satin finish. Described as a tan rose it has brown and rose undertones and it’s actually my perfect nude lipstick.
My newest purchase, the Givenchy Le Rouge lipstick in 106 Nude Guipure is a semi matte lipstick with the most gorgeous black genuine leather packaging. The formula is very creamy and super pigmented and very comfortable to wear. I just love everything about it, from the rock chick packaging to the product itself, it’s just the perfect luxurious lipstick.
Swatches L to R: Charlotte Tilbury Very Victoria, Mac Hug Me, Givenchy Le Rouge 106, Nars Barbara
As you can see by the swatches they’re all pretty similar, the undertones are a little different and they’re different finishes but all in all I can see a pattern in my nude lipstick selection. I guess we always go with a shade that we love and buy it over and over again. Does that happen to anyone else?
