Tarte released a new concealer called the Shape Tape Contour Concealer and people loved it. It is so popular that most of the shades were sold out for a long time. I wanted to get my shade which is usually Light Medium since the concealer launched but it was always sold out. And finally Tarte had a sale during the holidays and restocked so I got the chance to pick up two shades.
Concealer is so important to me. I can go out with no foundation or mascara and show my bare face but I aways have to conceal my under eye area.
I have darkness in the inner corners of my eyes so if I don’t conceal I look very tired. I also have normal to dry under eye area so I need a concealer that will not accentuate any dryness. If a concealer catches on dry patches it can make you look older than you are.
Now on the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer. I had high hopes when I got it since it is so popular and I’m happy to say that it didn’t disappoint me.
The Tarte Shape Tape Concealer is described as a creamy concealer with radiant coverage that you can use both for brightening and contouring. It is a full coverage concealer with velvet matte natural finish.
The line has 14 available shades which is a nice variety for a concealer. I got the shades in Light Neutral (light skin with yellow and pink undertones) and Light Medium (light to medium skin with pink undertones). Light Neutral works really well for my under eye area and Light Medium makes for a good spot concealer for my light to medium skin tone.
The formula of the concealer is creamy, very pigmented and blends in to a really nice natural matte finish. It didn’t catch on my dry patches and also it didn’t sink in to any fine lines. I think if you have normal to dry skin like me you can get away without setting and using any powder. Since the finish felt powdery matte I didn’t feel the need to set it and I’m happy to say that even without powder, the concealer wore really well.
With the wand applicator being bigger than your usual concealer wand you have to be careful not to over apply product. If you end up with a lot of product under the eyes, the concealer can look a little cakey and dry, so less is more with this one.
For blending I used both a Beauty Blender and a concealer brush and both ways worked really well for me.
Swatches L to R: Tarte Shape Tape in Light Neutral, Tarte Shape Tape in Light Medium, Becca Aqua Luminous Perfecting Concealer in Light, Urban Decay Naked Concealer in Light Neutral, Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Concealer in R30, Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer in Custard
Above are swatches of both shades from the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer plus some other concealer shades that I’m currently using just as a shade reference.
My final thoughts are that the Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer lives up to the hype. It’s a very nice full coverage concealer that still manages to look natural on the skin. I also think since the formula is so good this concealer will work for all skin types.
The Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer is available at tartecosmetics.com and Ulta and it’s priced at $24.
