Make Up For Ever reformulated their famous HD foundation to go with the new 4k lens technology. The HD foundation was originally created for the Film and TV industry to get that flawless natural complexion on and off camera.
The new Ultra HD foundation has a lightweight formula that has a medium to buildable coverage and a natural finish. I find that this new formula is more liquidy than the old one so it’s easier to blend. The MUFE artists recommend using a flat foundation brush with tap and stretch motions but for me I get the best results when I use a Beauty Blender for application.
A damp makeup sponge makes the finish very natural and skin like. The foundation doesn’t have SPF so it’s perfect for photography or if you’re looking for a good long lasting foundation for your wedding. The finish is natural, not matte but not dewy and the lasting power is pretty impressive for a foundation, I wore it for 8h and it looked perfect at the end of the day. And not to mention the shade selection, they have 40 available shades so a great variety for everyone. For reference I wear the shade in Y305 Soft Beige and it matches my light to medium skin tone perfectly.
With the launch of the new Ultra HD foundation Make Up For Ever also released primers to go with the foundation. There are 10 different types of primers ranging from a Mattifying primer to Radiant primers for different skin tones.
I received four of the Step 1 Skin Equalizer primers: Mattifying Primer, Smoothing Primer, Hydrating Primer and the Nourishing Primer.
The Mattifying Primer is meant for oily skin. It helps with shine and reduces oil production. I recommend this primer only for people with oily skin. I have combo skin which is on the dryer side because of the cold weather and I can’t use this because how mattifying it is. I bet it would work great in the warmer months when my skin produces more oil. If you’re oily I recommend checking this out, it really does keep your skin matte.
The Smoothing primer helps with skin texture. If you have fine lines or enlarged pores this is the primer for you. This is one of the best smoothing primers I’ve tried. I use it on my nose and around my t zone where I have visible pores and it works wonders. It smooths out the appearance of pores and completely fills them in so when I apply foundation it looks perfect.
The Hydrating and Nourishing primer help with hydration and restoring balance to your skin. The Hydrating primer is for normal skin who has the occasional dryness and the Nourishing primer is more for dry skin who needs a lot of moisture. Both work really well for my skin, I use the Hydrating primer on days when I don’t have a lot of dry patches but on days when my skin feels extra dry I reach for the Nourishing primer. The Nourishing primer has a thicker texture and feels almost like a moisturizer and the Hydrating primer has a runnier formula and reminds me of the Marc Jacobs Coconut Primer in a way that it has that thinner milky consistency but still hydrates pretty well.
If you’re looking for a good medium to full coverage foundation that still looks natural and photographs well definitely check out the MUFE Ultra HD foundation. I think the foundation will work great for normal, combo to oily skin but if you have dry skin you can always use it in combination with the Hydrating or Nourishing primer.
Many thanks to the Make Up For Ever team for sending me the Ultra HD Foundation and Step 1 Skin Equalizers
