Contouring has taken over the makeup world, it seems that every company is coming out with their own version of a contouring palette. I do love that we get so many choices but sometimes it can be a little bit overwhelming by all of them.
The question is are you looking for a cream contour product or a powder. Cream contour palettes are nice but I find that you have to set them with powder otherwise they tend to move, specially if you live in a hot climate as me and also if your face is on the oilier side. That’s why I prefer powders for every day use and leave the cream products for special occasion whenever I want to look extra contoured :).
That’s where the Kat Von D Shade+Light contour palette* comes in. It has total of six shades, the top row has three highlighting shades that are all matte and the bottom row, contour and bronze shades, also all matte.
The powders are very pigmented and soft to the touch so when you put your brush make sure to tap off excess product cause otherwise you’ll end up with a lot of it on your cheeks. I always like to build up my contour, it’s easier to achieve a natural looking shade than to pack a lot of color at once.
I use Lyric, the yellow and Levitation, the peach shade to set my under eye area and also to brighten it at the same time and the shade on the left, Lucid (pale pink) shade I use as a matte highlight on my forehead and cheeks.
Sombre is the shade on the left, a true taupe shade that’s perfect for contouring cause of the grey undertones and Shadowplay has more warmth and it’s good for bronzing up the face. Subconscious is a deep brown and it’s pretty dark so I haven’t tried it yet, I’ll probably use that shade when I get a tan in summer.
Sephora also has a Shade+Light Contour brush* that’s sold separately and it goes really well with the contour palette. I definitely recommend picking up the brush even if you’re not interested in the palette. This brush has helped me with my contouring skills and I’m not a pro, the way it’s shaped it just makes it very easy to blend and position your contour correctly.

If you’re on the market for a contour palette this is a nice palette to consider and for the price you do get a lot of product.
