Styling Blog And Instagram Photography

When it comes to styling your blog and Instagram photography there are no rules. Everyone has their own style. What I’ve figured through the years is that you have to find a style that you like and stick to it. That way people will recognize your photography right away. It’s somewhat of a branding.

I like clean looking photos. Not a lot of props and nothing too busy. Especially if I’m shooting more products in one picture I use less props. If I’m doing photography for one product then I like to add more props just to add some texture to the picture.

Background

My background choice is marble. When I first started I used a white board and it worked out ok. But I wasn’t really satisfied how my photos looked. I couldn’t get the background as white as I wanted so I always had to use Photoshop and apps to make it lighter.

I get so many questions about where I got the marble. My marble board is actually a pastry board that I got on Amazon. For a more affordable option, you can always go to Home Depot and buy a marble sample. They go for around $5 so they’re super affordable. You can also check Marshalls or Home Goods, sometimes you can find marble boards for way cheaper.

Props

I buy my props either from Home Goods or Marshalls. Just go to the kitchen and decoration isle and you’ll find some amazing stuff for cheap.

Marble coasters are a great option. I have two sets, one is beige marble and the others are gray with gold and both were $7 each. You can also use small plates that have some engraving or match your style. I like using white and silver plates because they go really well with marble.

Artificial Succulents are a great way to add some color to your photography. I got a set of 4 succulents from Marshalls for $12. You can also find super cute succulents at Ikea or Target.

Of course blogger staples are fashion magazines, pretty books and candles. If you have them handy you can easily incorporate them in your photography.

For adding texture, you can use scarfs, blankets, fake fur and even sweaters. During the winter it’s nice to add some knitted props to your photos.

Also for affordable props you can check Target. I always go to their bathroom section to look for some cute plates.

Styling

This is very individual. When I style my photos, I don’t think about it too much. I don’t like to sort my product or line them. They’re more like an organized mess. What I do is put all the products and move them around to see what works for me. Then I take couple of pictures and if I don’t like the look, I switch the products around. Also I try not to use products that clash in color. You will see a mix of colors but they all somehow go together.

My advice is, just take your time and play with the setting. After some time you will see what works for you and what doesn’t.

Hope some of the tips help. As always you’re welcome to leave any questions that you have in the comments below.
